Your Guide

My name is Elke, I am German and married to a Dane. My husband and I bought an old farm that we are lovingly restoring.

At the same time, we have fulfilled a long-awaited dream.

A tree house! A tree house that we rent out to dear people who are looking for a break from their everyday lives (www.treehousedenmark.com; Instagram or Facebook).

Then came Corona.

Corona tore me out of my life, nothing was the same as before. It was time to question my previous life. What did I want? Did I want to continue as before? Could I start over again when I was over 50? Lots of questions, no answers.

On my way to getting healthy, I came back into contact with nature. A contact I had lost without knowing it. I started training as a “Nordisk Skovbadsguide” forest pool guide/nature guide because I felt it was the right thing to do. Since August 5th, 2023 I have been able to call myself “Nordisk Skovbadsguide” and I am very proud.

At the same time, Ringana came into my life and immediately convinced me with their fresh and sustainable products and their philosophy. Ringana gives me the opportunity to build my own business. A company for which sustainability, freshness and our nature are very important. Like me.

Forest bathing - what is it?

Forest bathing - Shinrin Yoku in Japanese - is the mindful, unintentional immersion in the atmosphere of the forest, in which we open all our senses wide. A forest bath lasts between 2 and 3 hours. The slow walk through nature in a group is supported by small, guided mindfulness, perception and breathing exercises. “Forest bathing” (no, we’re not going swimming) relies on the healing power of trees.

Stressed people find themselves in the forest.

Forest bathing - what does science say?

Researchers at the Nippon Medical School in Tokyo laid the scientific foundations for forest bathing. In one study, scientist Quing Li sent hundreds of test subjects on a walk; one half in the city, the other in the forest. The subsequent blood sample showed that the concentration of DHEA hormones was unchanged in the city group, but significantly increased in the forest group. DHEA is a hormone that maintains cardiovascular functions and prevents heart disease. In another study, the scientist sent twelve test subjects into the forest for a whole day. The blood analysis afterwards showed that the level of natural killer cells had increased by almost 40 percent. These cells kill viruses and destroy cancer cells. To permanently strengthen the immune system, Quing Li recommends two forest days per month.

Forest bathing - how does it work?

We walk through nature at a slow pace, a route that I know and have chosen for you. We stop at certain places to really let nature work its magic on us. I invite you to do a few mindfulness exercises with me so that you can perceive the forest and nature with all your senses. As I said, they are invitations, if you don't want to, you don't have to take part in everything. It's important that you listen to your body and do what feels right.

Forest bathing - how much does it cost?

A group tour with me costs 340 DKK (45 €).

I recommend integrating forest bathing into your everyday life as a kind of routine.

When booking 6 tours it costs 1950 DKK (260 €) in total.

You also have the option of booking a "private tour"

(just you and me) for 400 DKK (54 €) /forest bathing or if you

book 6 tours it costs a total of: 2300 DKK (309 €).

The amount must be paid in advance.

Of course, our guests in the tree house receive a discount.
